The Hanover Fire Department is comprised of 16 career firefighters and 2 volunteer fire companies. The Department operates from 2 fire stations. There are 3 shifts of 5 firefighters that work rotating 24 hour shifts. The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief are shared positions with Penn Township through an inter-municipal agreement.
The Wirt Park Fire Station is the headquarters station and is located at 201 N. Franklin Street. It houses a 2015 Sutphen SPH100, 100’ mid-mount tower ladder and 2-2000 GPM KME pumpers. The Eagle Fire Company #2 operates a 2010 Pierce Air Unit. The Clearview Fire Company #3 operates a 1996 E-One Heavy Rescue. Penn Township Volunteer Emergency Services provides Emergency Medical Services to the residents of the Borough of Hanover. They operate a Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) that is staffed with an EMT and a Paramedic 24/7. All of these units are also housed in this station.
The Clearview Fire Station is located at 411 N. George Street and houses a 2000 GPM KME pumper and, through an inter-municipal cooperative agreement, Penn Township houses a 2004 Sutphen 2000 GPM pumper there as well. A Penn Township MICU is stationed there and is staffed 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Clearview Fire Company houses a light trailer at this station as well.
We also operate the Gamewell Fire Alarm/City Master Box System. These are the red pull boxes mounted on utility poles and buildings throughout the town. There are 113 boxes on our system, 79 of which are tied into commercial or industrial locations. The system is maintained by a team of firefighters who attend specialized training to keep the system operational. There is no faster way of summoning the fire department than using the Gamewell/City Master Box Fire Alarm System.
Operationally, the Hanover Fire Department and Penn Township Department of Fire & Rescue work cooperatively to provide the best possible services to residents of both municipalities. Recent cooperative efforts led to all firefighters in each station responding on one piece of apparatus which reduces the amount of apparatus on the street for calls and allows the shifts to operate as traditional Engine and Truck companies, making a safer and more efficient operation.
We are always looking for volunteer members. Anyone wishing to join can stop by the Wirt Park Station for an application. Not only do we need volunteer firefighters, but Fire Police officers as well.
